Hannah and James’s Wedding at the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh

Some weddings just feel like sunshine – and not just because the weather turns out. Hannah and James got married on a bright, warm day in May, surrounded by 50 of their favourite people at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. From start to finish, the whole day felt relaxed, personal and full of joy.

There was a unique theme woven through the day: a celebration of books, stories and creativity. As lovers of fiction and the performing arts, Hannah and James brought a sense of theatre and imagination to every detail. The setting couldn’t have been more perfect: the Botanic Gardens gave the day a slightly fantastical feel, like stepping into a storybook.

The standout for us? The bouquet and decor – handmade from the pages of real books. The craftsmanship was incredible, and it added such a personal, meaningful touch to the day. Every detail felt like a reflection of who they are and what they love.

The ceremony took place in the John Muir Grove, under the towering redwoods. It’s such a peaceful spot –tucked away, quiet, and surrounded by nature – and it suited Hannah and James perfectly.

After the “I dos,” we took a stroll through the Rock Garden for some couple shots. It was all very low-key – just the two of them chatting, laughing and taking it all in while we captured a few beautiful, natural moments.

All the Good Stuff

One of the best things about the day was how much fun everyone had. There were lawn games out on the grass, a cartoonist sketching guests (some of the drawings were brilliant), and one of the liveliest ceilidhs we’ve seen in a while thanks to The Jacobites Ceilidh Band. The dancefloor was packed – and yes, we filmed some excellent moves that we’re sure will be brought up in speeches for years to come.

And then there were the little personal touches. Their cake, made by 3D Cakes, was book-themed and tied in with their literary table names – a lovely detail that felt so “them.” It’s always great when couples bring bits of their story into the day like that. It makes the whole thing feel even more special.

A Lovely Day with a Lovely Couple

There are so many stunning little corners for photos and video – and it always feels peaceful, like a little world of its own in the middle of the city.

But more than anything, it was Hannah and James who made the day what it was. They were an absolute joy to work with – calm, kind, and totally in the moment with each other and their guests. The kind of couple that reminds you why this job is such a privilege.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Absolutely. The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is one of the most visually stunning venues we’ve filmed at. From the towering redwoods in John Muir Grove to the colour and texture of the Rock Garden, there are so many beautiful backdrops that make your film look cinematic without feeling staged.

  • We bring professional audio gear that works well in outdoor environments, so your vows and speeches are captured clearly – even with a bit of wind or background noise. We also work with natural light, which means we can make the most of the garden’s changing tones throughout the day.

  • Yes – a little Scottish rain doesn’t stop us. We always bring weather protection for our gear and know how to adapt to changing light and conditions. The indoor spaces at the Botanics, like Caledonian Hall, also offer lovely filming options if the weather turns.

  • We’re very familiar with the Botanics, but if it's your first time there (or you’re using a lesser-known area of the garden), we’re always happy to do a pre-wedding visit or liaise with your planner to walk the site and map out key moments.

  • Golden hour couple shots in the Rock Garden or open lawns, natural guest interactions during drinks and lawn games, and outdoor ceremonies in the Grove are all standout moments. If you’re having live entertainment – like Hannah and James did with their ceilidh band and cartoonist – we love weaving those into the final story too.
